Check out Jake Mann’s Townie conversion I have lovingly nicknamed “Jake Mann’s Blue Moods”.

Jake took his Gitane Tour De France frame got it powdercoated a lovely light blue and converted it into a 650b 1×6 (that’s a 40t chainring with a 13-32 freewheel if you’re counting). He used plenty of older parts that he had laying around and even fit some old 700c fenders on there. However, the Velo Orange Porteur Handlebars and (his customized powdercoated) Velo Orange Porteur Rack were new.

If you find yourself inspired by Jake’s build and want something similar for all those summertime picnics and rides to the beach you got plans for stop by and take advantage of our Townie Conversion Sale!

After work yesterday I decided to have a little impromptu full moon fire. So backpack full of groceries I stopped by a nearby cabinet shop to pick up some free wood. I loaded up my front rack and headed home. This is normal for me. As a car-less city dweller being able to haul around stuff on my bike is invaluable.

(Jackie’s bike, not mine, on a camping ride last year)

As you may (or may not) have noticed in our daily rider photo series most of our personal bikes have a townie style. Upright handle bars with sweep and front racks/baskets are pretty ubiquitous at Box Dog. We find over and over again that this is a really common and practical change to make for most people’s daily use. We probably do a road to townie conversion at least once a week. Turning people’s 80′s steel frame road bikes into practical commuters is something we are experts at.

So, in prep for the Spring and all the sunny rides it brings we are having a townie conversion sale!!!!

It breaks down like this:

Gabe spent the week finalizing a new build.

The full photoset is available at our Flickr page.

That’s me smiling : )

One of our customers brought in his bike for some final touches and a fender install.

With a wide range of gears, wider tires, fenders and an upright riding position, this bike is a great example of a classic looking build that will be comfortable on long rides anywhere in California.

Shot out to Bhava for setting the fenders up with good lines.  Nice job dude!
