There’s an alleycat in Oakland on Saturday – looks like a hill climber!

Check thier myspace page for race updates.  Its single speed only (of any type) and looks like the riders bring the prizes.  DIY goodness like home made bike stuff and baked goods.  Good times.

Holy crap the next bit of life is going to rule!

Saturday AM:
DFL final race this Saturday.  John fixed up his new Retrotec and I’m on my old Schwinn touring bike with mud tires.  If you’ve never been to a cyclocross race this is the one to go to.

Saturday PM:
Party like its 1999 or something

Sunday High Noon:
Box Dog Bikes Ralleycat starts at Ft. Mason Green.  We are expecting a lot of participants and a ton more spectators.  This will be a festive event so even if you aren’t racing please come and enjoy the spectacle and consider riding one or two of the stages for a good time.  If you are racing remember that its a long ride so pack some food and water, wear a helmet, be safe and have fun.

Sunday 5PM:
Race concluces at Thieves Tavern (the bar next to the bike shop) for pizza party and awards ceremony.

Sunday 5:02PM
Box Dog Party at Thieves Tavern.  Celebrate the accomplishments of all the riders, the end of the summer season, a belated harvest moon drumcircle (j/k), or whatever.  If you come it will be amazing I promise.

Monday:
Work

Tuesday:
Interbike!  I’ll be taking a lot of photos and doing a big dump on our flickr page of new product photos.  Macaframa is premiering its video, theres a sick cross race, an alleycat and probably a bunch of industry grey-hairs generally getting loose.  Good times indeed.

I’m pretty stoked about this weekend and the next week, and to top it all off I just heard about the Oregon Manifest!  WTF!  October 10th-12th, Portland OR, like the NAHMBS but at a better location during a huge cyclocross race with so many exhibitors.  I’m excited to talk to so many fabricators, learn about framebuilding details I hadn’t thought about or even through possible and possibly shop around for a custom bike myself :)

I’m up in upstate NY enjoying the cold weather and bright sun of the Hudson Valley and visiting my father. Nonetheless I’m going to do my best to stay abreast of current happenings in the bicycle world.

You may have seen the B.A.R.R. poster posted in my earlier post about bicycle art posters. Based on my previous experience of Goldsprints during our annual Gestalt party, I think that if I were to have participated it probably they probably would have dropped the last R in the title and added an F instead. Fortunately that wasn’t the case.

I’m very happy to see Goldsprints getting such traction. Particularly, the sprints bring together the otherwise disparate elements of the bicycle community and allows them to enjoy mild competition, rowdiness and tastes of victory in a social and congenial atmosphere. Infrequent are the times that fixy kids, intense mountain bikers, mom and pop commuters and road nerds have a forum to get to know each other. Murphy, the man behind the magic, is doing great things to promote bicycle culture in SF. Stay posted for updates on future events he is sponsoring and continued (lite) coverage of other fun stuff.

Style points for the Macaframa shirt, beard-shag combo duo, and the Chuey Cap.

Post Script: Jon and I stayed late one night at Box Dog to assemble those bikes with parts donated by SOMA/Interloc/Merry and Cane Creek. Its always nice to see your handiwork around town.

Some of the art generated for bicycle related activity is worth re-posting. I’ll do my best to keep up with current bicycle-art-event posters from around the world as they appear in my reader. No big news from the shop this week, but I will be traveling to New York next week which will be pretty rad!
