Chuey Brand

30 more August 2008 era Chuey Brand cycling caps – straight from the source (Chuey himself, San Francisco).  Note the variety of color options and patterns, new silkscreen images, differences in material; and, on the last frame, the brim detail.  Chuey indicated that he is now making some non-wool caps, such as the all green one below in frame 9, to satisfy the “vegan” market.  Color tint is off on some of the photos because for whatever reason I decided to shoot the photos on the pink section and my camera tried to color balance.  Come into the shop and check them out IRL for a full experience of their vibrant colors and unique materials.  Retailing for $25 each.  Select any of the hats to click through to our flickr page with larger images.

 Bicycle-Tshirt, San-Francisco-Bicycle, Viva-La-Bici

One of the things I really appreciate about working at Box Dog Bikes is getting to know local vendors.  This week I met Jose from Viva La Bici, and he’s a super nice dude.  Viva is the side project of Jose, who works as a messenger, and Will, who works as a mechanic at another local shop.  They design t-shirts.  The shirts are rad.  We will be selling them, and have started with a modest size run of their most popular black and purple shirts.

Chuey also came by the shop.  Dude is hella nice and continues to manufacture really colorful wonderful cycling caps.  For those of you who don’t know, the Chuey Brand Cycling Caps are made cut and sewn here in San Francisco.  Chuey recently moved his headquarters into the mission and is collaborating with some other bicycle community folks so expect to see some new-new shit coming out of SF.  For the mean time, here are some rad Chuey Brand Caps:

Lastly, despite the current hellish weather we are having San Francisco is bound to return to its normal 65*F pleasentness.  In anticipation of a beautiful foggy San Francisco bicycle summer, I ordered a small and a medium SWRVE jacket.  I ordered one of the standard waterproof Milwakee Jackets, and one of their new fuzzy riding hoodies.  Both have a longer back section, rear riding jackets, waterproof exterior material & tapered sleeves so that when you reach forward they dont ride up your arms.  Yeah bicycle specific products!

Our buddy Chuey took a breather from his other job making beer and stopped by today with 15 more cycling caps. Now they are available for sale here. Apparently the price of hops (and maybe beer!!!) is increasing, but for now the price of Chuey Caps is steady chillin at $25 each at BDB – take that global inflation!

Its Gabe in a bag! San-Francisco-Used-BikesIts been a pretty awesome holiday season. Lots of activities, both in and out of the shop, both in and out of the bike world. I came across a couple of photos from very early in Box Dog history that I thought were pretty amusing, and we received some new handmade goods (!).

Back in the day when we first opened an account with R.E.Load we ordered the largest backpack we could. I think the reasoning was – why not!?! So then we put Gabe Peterson in the bag and rode around. Seemed like a good idea at the time: December 8th, 2005!

Its difficult to convey how energetic and optimistic we were at the time. I think to a large extent we are still really stoked on what we are doing, but I have to admit, Im also a bit more jaded. I hope that in the coming months we can remember to party and have as much fun doing what we are doing now (which is way more together) and have as much fun as we did then.

Rainy-Peak-Cycling-Caps-At-Box-Dog-Bikes, track-bikes-san-franciscoNew products have arrived in the mail!

New hats from Randi Jo Smith at Rainy Peak cyclery. For those of you who dont know these hats rule. They are made from basic cotton, come in a variety of crazy patterns, and are made by hand in Cottage Grove, Oregon. The hats we receive are totally random in regards to the patterns and colors, which is cool because the SWRVE-Caps-At-Box-Dog-Bikes, track-bikes-san-franciscoinventory is constantly changing. Here is a picture of my favorite one: its blue corduroy with fancy pink dots. Pretty & Pimp.

SWRVE hats are in too. I like them because they are very soft, the wool they are constructed with is from old suits and stuff like that so the patterns are subtle, and the brims are a bit larger than those on some of the other brands .

And of course we have more CHUEY BRAND caps in. This dude is basically indefatigable – his styles are so on point its dangerous. This go round we actually purchased some winter caps with the wool drop down flap in the back for your ears. Not really needed most of the year, but if you are out riding now and dont want to look like you have a spandex condom on your head, well then Chuey winter cap it is!

Fabric-Horse-At-Box-Dog-Bikes, Track-Bike-San-FranciscoLastly we have more goods from Fabric Horse. Sadly we have already sold out of the lock-holsters, but we should have some more in by January. If you haven’t already I highly suggest subscribing to her blog. Fabric Horse is relatively new as a business and I think with the growth of the track bike and urban bike worlds she’s about to blow up. It will be cool to see what kind of new products and ideas are

Fabric-Horse-At-Box-Dog-Bikes, Track-Bike-San-Franciscogenerated from her success!

I think my plan is to always have two of her utility belts in stock and a handful of her lock-holsters because I think both products rule and are very useful. If anyone has any interest in her spats let me know and I’ll see what we can do!
